Jacket a tad rubbed and edgeworn, with chip on rear panel, but complete and attractive; ownership name/address inkstamp on front pastedown. Tight and nice facsimile reprint of this thick 1887 fiction by the decorated officer with the 65th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (1841-1905) who penned the highly-regarded "Story of the Sherman Brigade" (1897) and clearly knew whereof he spoke. Its popularity prompted another soldier/author, John McElroy (1846-1929), to write the Civil War novel "Si Klegg: His Transformation from a Raw Recruit to a Veteran" (1910). .
