Title: Gallows' Orchard
Description: New York, Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith, 1930. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Black and red cloth with red spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 285pp. Decorative endpapers. Very good/very good. Internally tight and near fine, with faintest hint of dampstaining to top edge of last few leaves; sharp jacket has some miniscule edge chips at head/tail of spine only. Quite attractive first edition of the first (out of three) novel by this Scottish-American writer (1895-1987) -- whose husband happened to be co-publisher Smith. A dramatic tragedy set in a wee Sco'ish village, with killer Art Deco-ish jacket front panel featuring a striking closeup of the lead character. Rather scarce. .
