While internally tight and fine, binding shows just the faintest of wear; ownership signature/inkstamp at top of front flyleaf. Tight, quite attractive later printing of ML Giant #37 -- based on binding circa 1950. Choice addition: Tipped in facing the title page is a unique frontispiece of sorts -- a fine, heavy stock, steel-engraved head-and-shoulders portrait of a mustachioed older Hawthorne. J.A.J. Wilcox of Boston is noted (presumably as engraver), and although not dated this was likely the frontispiece for a later 19th century Hawthorne biography or study. .
