LYNCH, Don - Titanic: An Illustrated History

Title: Titanic: An Illustrated History
Description: New York, Hyperion, 1992. Hardcover. Paintings by Ken Marschall. Introduction by Robert D. Ballard. Wide 4to. Blue cloth with gilt lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 227pp. Extensive illustrations (most color; one large foldout). Fine/near fine. Handsome first edition of this hefty study of all things Titanic in the light of Ballard's discovery of the wreckage -- but this tight and lovely copy bears on front flyleaf four fine, heavy stock, matching 5" X 3" cards with signatures of one Titanic historian and three cast members from the 1997 film "Titanic." At top are WALTER LORD (1917-2002), popular author and historian whose 1955 "A Night to Remember" sparked the juggernaut of Titanic mania; he signs boldly in black fineline, dating it 17 July 1971 at upper right. Alongside this is BILL PAXTON (1955-2017), who portrays treasure hunter Brock Lovett; he too signs in black fineline, dating it 19 July 1988 at upper right. At bottom are VICTOR GARBER (born 1949), who portrays Titanic's designer Thomas Andrews; he signs in blue ballpoint, dating it November 1977 at upper right. Alongside this is BILLY ZANE (born 1966), who portrays Rose's snobby millionaire fiancé Caledon Hockley; he signs in blue fineline, dating it July 1991 at upper right. Laid in are the perfect bookmarks: Lord, Paxton, Garber and Zane's original transmittal envelopes. .
