Jr. founder of the Boston architecture firm Longfellow, Alden & Harlow) on such projects as buildings as Harvard and Radcliffe; his work on M.I.T. designs isamong his best known work. ALS, 2pp (single leaf), 5" X 8", Portland, ME, n.y. Addressed to Mr. Carlson. Near fine. Writing to this officer of the Boston Society for Architecture, Longfellow thanks him for a lecture request but declines: "Unfortunately I have had for some time a trouble with my throat which makes it impossible for me to speak to any company, and has obliged me the last two times that I undertook such a thing to find some one to speak for me.." Boldly penned and signed in black ink. .
