OLIVIERI, Dino (1905-63) - Autograph Letter Signed

Title: Autograph Letter Signed
Description: This Italian conductor and composer of light music is best known for his song "Tornerai," a 1938 French version of which ("J'atttendrai") was wildly popular in France during World War Two and has been used in many films, soundtracks and television. ALS, 3pp (lettersheet), 5½" X 7", Biarritz, France, n.y. Addressed to "Dearest." Near fine. On pale green "British American Club" letterhead, Olivieri tells his correspondent "Your telegram and letter so sweet! I wish I could get to Paris before you leave, but just don't see how. So many things going wrong, so many changes and illness. Have been feeling simply rotten and being depressed hardly went out.. Fewer and fewer are left and we shall soon settle down to winter quietness..." Whether this is war-date or not is difficult to determine, but his closing line ("Now they are calling for me..") suggests he was performing at some venue. Signed simply and sloppily "Olivieri." Interesting -- unusual. .
