Author: DUKE, Charlie, and DUKE, Dotty Title: Moonwalker
Description: Nashville, Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1996. Hardcover. Small 4to. Red paper over boards with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. x, 284pp. Illustrations. Near fine/near fine. Handsome, tight third printing of this 1990 memoir, inscribed and signed boldly by the astronaut in black fineline on front flyleaf: "To the Boldman's / Aim high / Charlie Duke." Inoffensive small abrasion at upper left corner of same leaf, which bears a tiny inked date "11-97" in another hand at lower right. Duke (born 1935) piloted Apollo 16 in 1972 and became the tenth person to walk on the moon -- and at age 36 the youngest! This volume also bears a second choice autograph addition: Tipped to rear flyleaf is a First Day Cover signed by a legendary NASA Mission Control figure nicknamed "Captain Video" -- 6½" X 3½" envelope bearing two "United States in Space -- A Decade of Achievement" 8-cent USPS postage stamps at upper right, postally cancelled in Houston on 2 August 1971 and with "First Day of Issue" so noted. Never addressed. In the "sweet spot" at center, it is boldly signed in black ballpoint "Ed Fendell Apollo 15 Lunar TV." Edward Fendell (born 1932) remotely operated the camera controller on the Apollo Lunar Rover. .
