Description: This Republican politician from Wisconsin tried and failed to replace Senator Joe McCarthy; he served five terms in Congress from 1947 to 1957 and another four terms frm 1965 to 1974, but is best remembered as star shortstop for the Washington Senators," the Congressional baseball team. ANS, 1p, 6½" X 8½", n.p. n.y. Addressed to Mrs. Higgins. Fine. On "House of Representatives" personalized letterhead, Davis writes: "Hope the enclosed picture will serve your purposes.." Boldly penned and signed in blue ballpoint. Undated, but circa 1970. The picture in question is an outstanding 8½" X 6½" glossy black-and-white news agency photograph. The newsprint text sheet tipped to verso dates it 5 May 1947, titles it "Getting in Trim for Congressional Game" and describes the scene: "Rep. Charles Fletcher, (R. of Calif.) attempts a bunt during a practice workout of the House's Republican team today in preparation for their game with the House Democrats this coming Saturday in the Griffith Stadium in Washington. Rep. Glenn Davis, (Wisconsin) is the catcher, and umpiring is Rep. Harold Hagen (Minnesota)." A delightful image showing the brand-new Congressman doing what he became best known for! Nice unusual pair. .
