BEAUMONT, Germaine (1890-1983) - Autograph Letter Signed

Title: Autograph Letter Signed
Description: This versatile French writer and journalist was among the leading female intellectuals of her day and produced a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction, starting with her 1930 novel "Piège," which won the Prix Renaudot.; she served as secretary for Colette, who became her mentor and in 1958 she co-edited a book of Colette's writings; she lived in England from 1908 to 1915 and translated Virginia Woolf's "A Writer's Diary," Truman Capote's "Breakfast at Tiffany's," some of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes tales and other English works. ALS (in French), 1p, 8¼" X 10½", n.p. n.y. Addressed to "Mademoiselle." Very good. Faint fold lines and bit of age toning. On pale green stock, Beaumont boldly pens this untranslated letter that appears to be answering a question posed by an admirer. Not dated, but ink and paper suggest perhaps a 1940s vintage. .
