TROVILLION, Violet, and TROVILLION, Hal W. - The Sundial in Our Garden

Title: The Sundial in Our Garden
Description: Herrin, IL, Trovillion Private Press, 1945. Hardcover. 8vo. Pale blue paper over boards with paper labels. xii, 53pp. Frontispiece, pictorial endpapers. Near fine. Paper labels lightly sunned, else tight and handsome. Beautiful copy of this slim volume of commentary and advice on sundials, lovingly printed on fine paper. Husband and wife Hal W. Trovillion (1879-1967) and Violet (1890-?) founded this small but interesting press in 1908. In 1935 they first published 156 copies of the Sundial book as a Christmas giveaway; in 1945 they published the edition offered here, limited to 496 numbered copies (this #11) signed by both authors in the hand of one (Hal); and in 1955 they published a second edition limited to 488 signed, numbered copies. This copy bears a fine small Autograph Letter Signed from Hal tipped to an inner flyleaf: 1p, 4" X 6", Herrin, IL, 22 December 1944. Addressed to Mrs. Fisher. Fine. On "Trovillion Private Press" letterhead, Trovillion thanks this customer for her order and comments that "'Sundial' book has long been out of print, but may enlarge and republish this next year. Also plan to reproduce a sort of Old England book in 1945.." Boldly penned in his miniscule script and signed in full. .
