Author: (JO DAVIESS COUNTY -- WORLD WAR ONE) Title: Jo Daviess County Honor Roll: An Illustrated Historical Biography Compiled from Private Authentic Records
Description: Galena, IL, M.J. & A.J. Weber, n.y. Hardcover. Small 4to. Black cloth with gilt front board lettering. 224pp, 93pp ads. Numerous illustrations, advertisements, green decorative endpapers. Very good. Quite faint binding wear only. A handsome, tight probable sole edition of this memorial yearbook of World War I veterans from Jo Daviess county in northwestern Illinois. Intriguing addition: Tipped opposite title page is a unique frontispiece: an 8" X 5" sepia-tone print of a group of several dozen just-returned local doughboys standing on the steps of a local school in Jo Daviess's county seat, Galena. This same image (and not nearly as sharp as the tipped-in print) appears on page 212 of this book, captionad "The Above Is A Picture Taken On The Day of The Soldiers and Sailors Home-Coming in Galena, Ill. June 18, 1819." Unnusual copy of a volume exceptionally difficult to find in acceptable condition -- scotch-taped hinges and duck-taped spine are the norm. This is a scarce clean, tight-hinged copy with delightful addition from the period. .
