The author inscribes and signs the front flyleaf in blue marker so huge and bold ("For / Elizabeth / Blackburn / in hope / she may / Some day find / her car -- with best / wishes -- Nelson Algren") that a ghostly image of this inscription appears on the front jacket flap, front pastedown and several subsequent leaves (diminishing with each page) up through and including the title page!
