Color front board image of seaman fleeing a blazing ship onto a lifeboat is outstanding and the plentiful illustrations by famed German artist and illustrator Planck (1870-1956), probably the best known German book artist of the early 20th century, are delightful. Though undated, the ownership signature on front pastedown of John A. Noe, an artist from the famous German colonies known as Amana in Iowa, is dated December 25, 1912, thus approximately dating this edition. Scarce in this superb condition and the circa 120-year-old dust jacket is a rare survivor. .
