The farm relief comment makes little sense, for Stevenson's grandfather was Lewis G. Stevenson, Illinois secretary of state from 1914 to 1917, who appears to have no connection to farm relief; and if Neal mistakenly assumed that the grandfather of Stevenson III was Adlai I (1835-1914), U.S. vice president under Grover Cleveland, he too had little connection with farm relief. Oregon-born journalist and historian Steve Neal died in 2004, so this confusion will remain unanswered -- but an intriguing copy in any case. .
