JAMES, Will - Lone Cowboy: My Life Story

Title: Lone Cowboy: My Life Story
Description: New York, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1930. Hardcover. Illustrations by the author. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering and blue pictorial stamping. xi, 431pp, (2pp). Frontispiece, line drawings. Very good. Binding rather rubbed, with spine a bit darkened and spine gilt gone; not ex-library, but faint hint of private library label at spine foot; tight and internally fine. A tight and nice first trade edition of this classic autobiography by the 1927 Newbery Medal-winning Western writer and artist (1892-1942) and basis for the 1933 film of the same name -- and this copy with choice film autograph addition. The 1933 film starred Lila Lee as Eleanor Jones, and tipped to inner flyleaf is a 5½" X 8" black-and-white head-and-shoulders glamour portrait of her (likely from film magazine) bearing her facsimile signature. Facing leaf bears a 5½" X 8" black-and-white head-and-shoulders portrait of a young Jackie Cooper (1922-2011), who portrays lead Scooter O'Neill -- and tipped to lower right corner of this is a fine 4" X 2" slip on which he pens "Good wishes from us both / Jack Cooper" in brown ink and below this actress Bonita Granville (1923-88) pens "Bonita Granville / Brown Derby / July 2, 1942." (Cooper and Granville co-starred in the 1940 mystery film "Gallant Sons.") Nice copy and bearing sharp, relevant add-on. .
