Author: STEENMEIJER, Anna G. (editor) Title: A Tribute to Anne Frank
Description: Garden City, Doubleday & Company, 1971. Hardcover. 4to. White paper over boards with grey lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 120pp. Extensive illustrations, pictorial endpapers. Very good/very good. Jacket edgeworn, with scuff at upper right of front panel. A tight, quite nice first U.S. edition of this celebration of the Dutch-German girl (1929-45) whose posthumously-published diary made her the most famous of all Holocaust victims -- reviews her life, the stage and film versions of her tale, etc. This unique copy bears choice autograph additions from four figures from the original 1955 Broadway stage adaptation: Tipped to half-title page is an enormous, bold signature in black fineline from director GARSON KANIN (1912-99) on a 4" X 7½" sheet, while tipped to facing blank leaf (top to bottom) are items from three cast members. At top SUSAN STRASBERG (1938-99; portrays Anne Frank) signs in red fineline a glossy 4" X 5" head-and-shoulders portrait as an adult; below this JACK GILFORD (1907-90; portrays Mr. Dussel) signs in blue ballpoint a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, dating it 7 January 1971 at upper right; and at bottom LOU JACOBI (1913-2009; portrays Mr. Van Daan) signs in red ballpoint a matching card, dating it 7 March 1970 at upper right. Laid in are Gilford and Jacobi's original transmittal envelopes. An interesting, superbly unusual copy. .
