Author: WARREN, Robert Penn (introduction) Title: Fifty Years of American Poetry
Description: New York, Harry N. Abrams, Inc, 1984. Hardcover. Wood engravings by Barry Moser. Narrow small 4to. Terra cotta cloth with gilt spine lettering and decoration, dust jacket. 260pp. Illustrations. Fine/near fine. Pristine first edition of this "Anniversary Volume for the Academy of American Poets" -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped (vertically) to front flyleaf is a fine Autograph Note Signed from introducer Warren, 1p, heavy stock 5½" X 3½" postal card, Fairfield, CT, 30 April 1979. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar). On Warren's imprinted pale green correspondence card, acknowledging what was no doubt congratulations on winning the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for the second time, he pens this admirer in black ballpoint "Many thanks! Sincerely.." and boldly signs in full. Addressed in his hand on verso. These 126 poems represent a "Who's Who" in American poetry. Moser's half dozen illustrations are, as expected, superb. .
