 - The Child's Story-Book

Title: The Child's Story-Book
Description: New York, Kiggins & Kellogg, 1856. Paperback. 48mo (3 5/8" X 2¼"). Stiff green pictorial wrappers. 16pp. Several steel engravings. Very good. Mildly edgeworn, with tight text block lightly age toned. Attractive early copy of the fourth title in this publisher's "Second Series." Front wrapper address ("123 & 125 William St.") differing from title page address ("88 John Street") makes this a transitional printing, likely 1856. Kiggins & Kellogg (founded 1847) published four of these juvenile series, each consistin of 12 of these tiny booklets -- most of which, given their size and usage, are rather scarce in nice condition. This episode consists of six syrupy two-page tales ("The Stag-Hunt," The Cat," "The Little Ship," "The Beggar," "The Robin," The White Rabbit" ) closing with a two-stanza poem "Little Mary." A charming survivor in quite handleable condition. .
