Superb reprint edition of the Limited Edition Club's edition pairing these late 17th century comedic masterpieces. This extra-illustrated copy, however, features signatures from three stars of the famed 1967 National Theatre Company production of "Tartuffe," all on matching heavy stock 5" X 3" cards neatly tipped to front flyleaf and facing half-title page. Half-title page: JOHN GIELGUD (1904-2000 -- portrays Orgon) signs boldly in blue ballpoint, dating it 26 February 1970 at upper right; very good only, with inoffensive wear and folds; below this appears his 4" X 2½" printed "with the compliments of John Gielgud" slip. Front flyleaf, both fine: At top JOAN PLOWRIGHT (born 1929 -- portrays Dorine) signs huge and bold in blue ballpoint, dating it 1 June 1976 at upper right; and below ROBERT STEPHENS (1931-95 -- portrays Tartuffe) signs boldly in black ink, dating it 22 February 1970. All three original signature transmittal envelopes are laid in, as is the relevant "Sandglass" issue. .
