Author: AKIYAMA, Aisaburo Title: Sights of Old Capital
Description: N.p. Japan Tourist Bureau, 1930. Hardcover. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering and decoration. 149pp. Full-page illustrations, three tipped-in color woodcut prints. Very good. Internal stapling (as issued). Front gilt decoration a tad rubbed; endpapers slightly age toned. Tight and most attractive third edition of this sightseeing guide to Kyoto, entirely in English. The three tipped-in color woodcut plates are bright and spectacular. Interesting provenance: Front flyleaf bears name/address inkstamp of Chicago attorney Louis A. Kohn, a friend of Governor Adlai E Stevenson II (1900-65) who strongly supported an attempt to place him in the Senate. Kohn no doubt gave this copy to his friend. From the collection of Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81). Rather scarce and a quite unusual copy. .
