Description: This U.S. Marine Corps fighter ace is credited with 26 aerial victories, and his actions during the Guadalcanal Campaign earned him the Medal of Honor; postwar, he was elected Republican governor of South Dakota (1955-59), that state's youngest ever, and in 1959 he was named first commissioner of the American Football League, serving until 1966; he then pursued a successfull in television producing, hosting sporting shows. Large and bold signature in black fineline (beneath which he adds "USMCR / VMF-121") on a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, dated by him 11 June 1988 at upper right. Fine. Accompanied by an 11" X 14" print, a 1991 reproduction of a pencil head-and-shoulders portrait of Foss, his fighter plane and his Medal of Honor by noted aviation artist Lonnie Ortega. Near fine. .
