Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Washington, DC on 1 March 1972 and with "First Day of Issue" so stamped. Fine. Single 8-cent "National Parks Centennial" stamp picturing "Old Faithful, Yellowstone" image. Unusual and heavy aluminum 2¼" X 3¼" printed cachet mounted at left depicting this stamp. In the "sweet spot" near the bottom, Downs signs large and bold in black ballpoint. Downs was a noted conservationist involved in ecology and natural history causes, making his signature on this item relevant and appropriate. .
