Very good. Mild binding edgewear and bit of scuffing, else internally tight and near fine throughout. Attractive first edition of the first volume only (out of four) of this hefty study produced under the directorship of Charles D. Walcott. Part I consists of the "Director's Report and a Paper on Asphalt and Bituminous Rock Deposits" -- this latter George H. Eldridge's lengthy report on "The Asphalt and Bituminous Rock Deposits of the United States." Discreet ex-library, the only markings a faint number at spine base, small blind-embossed name on title page and small elegant bookplate of one of Illinois' oldest public libraries on front pastedown. Overall an exceptional and internally quite lovely copy. .
