Handsome copy of this broad selection of the poet's best work -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a near fine 2 3/4" X 1 3/4" slip boldly inscribed and signed by the poet in black ink: "I am, Sir, / respectfully yours / W.C. Bryant / Esq." Bryant (1794-1878), "The Father of American Poetry," was a mainstay of the 19th century literary scene, a popular and influential liberal journalist and long-time editor of the "New York Evening Post," but is best remembered as a prolific poet whose best-known piece, "Thanatopsis," was written as a teenager. .
