LANGEVIN, Bob

Title: Inscribed Photograph Signed
Description: This former Canadian policeman debuted in professional wrestling in 1932 and by 1952 held the NWA (Calgary) Heavyweight title; among his accomplishments he thrice faced off with Joe Louis in wrestler versus boxer matches. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p. n.y. Near fine. Glossy near full-length informal portrait of Langevin probably taken before an event -- an original and likely unique print inscribed to the wrestling fan who took it. He stands with his tree trunk bare legs that inspired his nickname in wrestling trunks and warmup coat in front of a cinderblock wall, likely backstage at a Chicago auditorium, and in a light area at upper left boldly inscribes and signs in blue ballpoint: "Meilleurs Souhaits [Best wishes] / a Don / Bob Legs Langevin / M c y c g [ ? ]." (Meaning of this last cryptic line completely unclear.) Undated, but circa 1960 Scarce and wonderfully unusual. .
