EASTMAN, Edwin - Seven and Nine Years Among the Camanches and Apaches. An Autobiography

Title: Seven and Nine Years Among the Camanches and Apaches. An Autobiography
Description: Jersey City, NJ, Clark Johnson, 1873. Hardcover. 12mo. Light orange cloth with black lettering and rules. 309pp, (1p). Frontispiece, illustrations. Good only. Binding quite rough and edgeworn (especially at spine head and tail) and corner bumped, age toned and scuffed; moderately age toned and foxed internally, though hinges are decently sound; inked 1874 ownership signature on front flyleaf and pencilled on following leaf. "A revolting fictitious story" is how Colton Storm describes this scarce production, "written to advertise Dr. Clark Johnson's Indian blood syrup" -- which Johnson does here on the unnumbered closing leaf, which describes this snake oil bizarrely as "the most remarkable purifier of the blood that I have ever known; it is a tonic, a diuretic, a nervine, and a gentle laxative. It is alterative, sudorific, soporific, and deobstruent.." First edition, worn and homely but handleable and decent -- and priced accordingly. AYER 90. GRAFF 1199. RADER 1265. .
