FRIEDRICH KARL OF PRUSSIA, Prince (1828-85) - Document Signed

Title: Document Signed
Description: The grandson of King Frederick William III of Prussia was himself a military officer who rose through the ranks to field marshal, serving notably in the Second Schleswig War of 1864, the Austro-Prussian War and the Franco-Prussian War. DS in German, 1p, 8½" X 14", Berlin, Germany, 29 June 1863. Very good. Faintly age toned and with original folds evident; a tad delicate about the edges, with several small expert archival edge mends on verso; triangular chip at lower left corner. On printed (upper left) letterhead of the Third Army Corps ("III. Armee-Corps General Commando"), the then lieutenant-general informs the Royal Headquarters of a soldier's transfer. Roughly translated, in part: "I respectfully reply that the young Hoffman in the noncommissioned officers school in Potsdam is to be assigned to the Brandenburg Rifle Regiment no. 35, and I have provided the said regiment with the proper notice." Boldly penned in brown ink, with Friedrich Karl's huge signature at the close. The verso contains two holograph columns of six dockets or endorsements of some sort whose purpose is not clear. One of these is signed by noted Prussian infantry general Georg Ferdinand von Bentheim (1807-84) and another by noted Prussian infantry general Wolf Louis Anton Ferdinand Stulpnagel (1813-85). The remaining four are signed by three different persons, likely also infantry generals although we have been unable to identify them. Fascinating item. .
