This copy is extra-illustrated, bearing choice autograph addition: Tipped opposite the title page (this book was issued without frontispiece) is an Autograph Note Signed from Farrell, 1p, 8" X 11", n.p. 2 March 1940. Addressed to future noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Very good. On imprinted "James T. Farrell" letterhead, the author thanks an admirer for birthday wishes: "Allow me to thank you for your kind and friendly note of Feb. 27th.." Boldly penned in blue ink and nicely signed in full. .
