Preprinted form from the New York Civil War Round Table (Gates was an officer) for noting attendance at some unidentified meeting: Van Doren checks the "Not coming" line, adding "[Sorry -- and thanks]" and signing boldly in full at the close. Van Doren (1894-1972) was a critic, author, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and all-around man of letters. .
