TRUETT, Randle Bond - Lincoln in Philately

Title: Lincoln in Philately
Description: Arlington, VA, Randle Bond Truett, 1959. Paperback. 8vo. Stiff pictorial wrappers. 36pp. Illustrations. Fine. Tight, pristine first edition of this self-published study -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to the inside front wrapper is an Autograph Letter Signed from Truett, 1p, 5½" X 8½", Arlington, VA, 28 February 1967. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). Near fine. On his nifty imprinted letterhead, Truett thanks Gates for some New York Civil War Round Table programs and for having him as a guest. "Your meeting was wonderful and you gave us such a nice reception. Also we did enjoy our visit to the Metropolitan Life.. They just did everything possible to make our visit one that we will remember for a long time. I was in the Ford's Theatre yesterday and they are really making headway. It is certainly good to see the progress. It does look like they will have it complete one of these days.." Attractively penned in blue ballpoint. Laid in is the small 4pp pristine program announcing Truett's appearance at the 156th meeting of this Round Table on 14 February 1967 and his lecture title ("Tragedy at Ford's Theatre"). Colonel Truett (1903-78) was a National Park Service historian and noted Lincoln historian. A surprisingly scarce title with superb added letter. .
