Description: Alexandria, Time-Life Books, 1982. Hardcover. 8vo. Complete 2-volume set. Black blind-embossed calf with gilt lettering. xii, 392pp; 480pp. All edges gilt, decorative endpapers, sewn-in red silk page markers. Fine. A tight and most attractive facsimile reprint of the J.B. Loehr critiques it less flatteringly as "An interesting commentary on life and people in the Confederacy, but marred by the author's strong prejudices and his editing of the narrative after the events described." NEVINS I, 115 and II, 173. .
