Description: New York, Thomas Yoseloff, 1959. Hardcover. 8vo. Blue cloth with gilt lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 419pp. Illustrations. Near fine/very good. Minor jacket edgewear. Tight, attractive first edition of what critic John T. Hubbell called "A collection of laudatory essays on well-known Northern women; based largely on printed sources, with fact and legend blended indiscriminately." Notes front jacket panel, "The Civil War as seen by the courageous women who served the Union armies on every battlefield from Bull Run to Appomattox." This copy bears a fine autograph addition as well: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from Dannett, 1p, 5½" X 7", Scarsdale, NY, 12 April 1966. Addressed to Arnold Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln/Civil War researcher). Near fine. On her personal letterhead, Dannett writes to this officer of the New York Civil War Round Table: "I should like to bring along Miss Ellen Tarry, the writer, as my guest at the Bruce Catton Dinner.." Signed boldly in full in black ballpoint. In addition to this title, Dannett (1909-95) wrote "She Rode with the Generals: The True and Incredible Story of Sarah Emma Seelye, Alias Franklin Thompson," "And the Show Went On..in the Confederacy" and several other histories. .
