Author: LEE, Letitia Elizabeth ("L.E.L.") (1802-38) Title: Autograph Envelope Signed
Description: Considered a pre-feminist heroine by some such as Germaine Greer, this English poet and novelist, known as "L.E.L." published prolifically through the 1820s and '30s and was highly regarded by many, but rumors of sexual liaisons and her early death mistakenly assumed to have been poisoning tarnished her reputation. AES, 1p, 4½" X 1 3/4" (tipped to slightly larger sheet), n.p. n.y. Very good. Mild age toning. Front portion of the integral address leaf of one of the quite small correspondence lettersheets favored by Lee. Boldly penned at center in brown ink is "Mrs Pulhill / Nottingham Place / New Road" and at upper right Lee signs with a neatly pencilled "L.E.L." Lee died at a young age and her autograph material is scarce in any form. .
