German painter Pletsch (1830-88) was one of the most popular and influential children's book illustrators of the 19th century, a master of sentimental scenes of everyday small town life. Title translation: "The Old Acquaintances: Original Sketches." A lovely copy with bold and bright color plates, identified as No. 439 of this F. Loewes Verlag publication. A pencilled ownership signature on front flyleaf is dated 1908, confirming a turn-of-the-century publication date. .
