Title: Some Songs
Description: Arden, DE, The Arden Press, 1935. Hardcover. 8vo. Orange paper over boards. 135pp. Frontispiece. Very good. Faintest of edgewear, else internally fine. A tight, handsome first edition of this verse collection by the sculptor, poet, reformer and all-around gadfly (1859-1935) who co-founded a utopian single-tax community in Arden, Delaware. This title likely came out shortly after Stephens' death on June 16, 1935, for the essays by various contributors interspersed among the poems -- one by Scott Nearing -- are clearly eulogies. The front flyleaf has been signed and inscribed huge and bold by one of Stephens' three children, Roger (1889-1955): "Miss Barbra Steele: / Thank you in all / Sincerity for having helped / out by coming down / today. / Gratefully / Roger Stephens." Since signed copies of this posthumous title are out of the question, a copy signed by his child is as good as it gets!.
