Choice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a Typed Letter Signed from series editor William Stanley Hoole, 1p, 7¼" X 10½", Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 1959 January 16. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93), noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar and officer of the New York City Civil War Round Table. Near fine. Friendly note the the respected "Lincoln Herald" and "Civil War Times" book reviewer sending Gates two other issues of the Confederate Centennial Studies series, noting: "We shall appreciate your giving review space to these two monographs in your journal" and adding a handwritten postscript ("Thanks for your nice comments in last Lincoln Herald"). Boldly signed in full. Hoole (1903-90) was a noted Alabama author, editor, educator and librarian.NEVINS I, 227 and 258. .
