Title: Typed Note Signed
Description: This World War One "Stars and Stripes" journalist and ad man; after Pearl Harbor he proposed to the military authorities a magazine written and edited not by the brass, but by enlisted men -- hence the creation of "Yank" magazine, though White was assigned to "Stars and Stripes" for most of the war and under his editorship and he brought the young cartoonist Bill Mauldin on board and furthered his career greatly. TNS, 1p, 6½" X 10¼", New Milford, CT, 1957 October 20. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar and New York City Round Table officer). Fine. On "Merry Acres" letterhead, White chats cordially about Civil War Round Table matters. In part: "There must have been some oversight about putting my name on your stencil list as I have received no notices about the Roundtable.. I attended the meeting on May 14 and enjoyed it.." Signed boldly in full in blue ballpoint. An unusual, uncommon autograph. .
