Title: The Journal of Hygiene: Volume XIV (January 1915), Volume XV (1915-17), Volume XVI (1917-18), Volume XVIII (1919-20), Volume XXI (1922-23)
Description: Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 1915. Hardcover. Small 4to. Half black calf with gilt spine lettering and black cloth. viii, pp. 683-792; vii, 594pp; vi, 420pp; vi, 476pp; vii, 462pp. Numerous tables, charts, illustrations, marbled page edges, decorative endpapers. Very good. Mildly edgeworn at corners, with some fading and wear to some cloth portions. Quite tight and fairly attractive near-continuous grouping of five volumes of this notable medical journal, founded and edited in 1901 by the renowned American-English biologist and bacteriologist (1862-1937). Volume XIV is subtitled "Plague Supplement IV," being the "Ninth Report on Plague Investigations in India." Discreet institutional copy (pharmaceutical manufacturing), the only marking being a "Library of The Upjohn Company" bookplate on each front pastedown and identical faint blind-embossed circular imprint on each title page. Nice quintette of early volumes of this influential journal -- rather uncommon. .
