Metcalf (1784-1875) was a Massachusetts jurist who compiled that state's annual "Reports of Cases Argued" between 1841 and 1850; he served on the Massachusetts Supreme Court from 1848 to 1865. The recipient, Samuel Howe (1785-1828), was a fellow jurist. Uncommon. .
