Description: This physician, neurologist and researcher is best known for co-discovering the use of Dilantin for treating epilepsy together with H. Houston Merritt in 1938; he also did pioneering research on multiple sclerosis in the 1930s, being one of the first to suggest a vascular cause. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p. 1969 July 24. Near fine. Handsome half-length black-and-white glossy formal portrait of an older Putnam in suit and tie, boldly signed and inscribed in a black fineline in a light area at upper left: "With regards / Tracy Putnam / July 24, / 1969." Accompanied by a secretarially-signed TNS, 1p, 7¼" X 10 3/4", Beverly Hills, CA, 1969 July 7. Addressed to Marshall E. Bean. Fine. Cordial note thanking an admiring educator, remarking: "I have worked long in the same field as you and feel it is well worthwhile." Autograph material of this interesting medical figure is surprisingly scarce. .
