A tad edgeworn, with front inner hinge starting but expertly and archivally strengthened, thus tight and handleable. Decent first edition -- a better than average copy of this often beat up text. Front cover title: "Cleveland Branch U.S. Sanitary Commission." The U.S. Sanitary Commission was created in 1861 to provide medical help and other aid to Union soldiers, and the Cleveland Branch was its "poster child" -- the first permanently organized branch, serving as a model for other small cities. .
