IPS, 3¼" X 5", n.p. 1913. Near fine. Superb sepia-tone oval-shaped head-and-shoulders portrait of a handsome young Washburn in suit and tie. Across his chest, he boldly inscribes and signs in a dark ink: "Very Sincerely / Bryant Washburn / 'Essanay' / 1913." Washburn had just signed on with the up-and-coming Chicago firm -- he was local talent -- which was founded in 1907 and made its name largely with Charlie Chaplin and Ben Turpin comedies. A choice example dated from the first days of his long film career. .
