Issued in 1947, this informal glossy shot depicts eight "weary, but smiling" legislators walking down the steps of the Capitol building, among them Ferguson, Claude Pepper, John Sparkman, Howard McGrath and other noted politicos of the day. Printed caption notes, "The 80th Congress Ended Its History Making First Session Today, Finally Adjourning at 3:49 AM EDT, More Than Three Hours After the House Had Quite to Go Home.."
