Author: PENNARIO, Leonard (1924-2008) Title: Inscribed Photograph Signed
Description: When Joan Fontaine plays Rachmaninoff's 2nd Concerto in the 1950 film "September Affair," it's actually a recording of this American classical pianist you're hearing; he debuted while a G.I. in Carnegie Hall in 1943, and toured the country in the 1960s as part of a popular Grammy-winning trio along with cellist Gregor Piatigorsky and violinist Jascha Heifetz. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p. 1984. Fine. Dramatic half-length portrait of a white-haired Pennario in tuxedo performing, set against an entirely black background. At upper left, in bright bold white, he inscribes and signs it "To John A. Leiser -- / With the good wishes of / Leonard Pennario / 1984." Outstanding contrast. With large portion of the original mailing envelope, addressed in Pennario's hand and bearing his hand-printed name and return address. Choicer than choice!.
