Title: Speeches of Hon. Galusha A. Grow, of Pennsylvania, on Homestead, Tariff, and Election of Speaker for Thirty-Seventh Congress
Description: Washington, DC, Scammell & Co, 1862. Paperback. 8vo. Wrappers. 16pp. Very good. Mild soiling and bit of edgewear. First edition of this trio, beginning with the Pennsylvania congressman's favorite topic: his February 29, 1860, speech "Free Homes for Free Men." This is followed by his March 7, 1860, speech on the tariff and his July 4, 1861 "Address.. on Taking the Chair as Speaker of the Thirty-Seventh Congress." As speaker, Grow was able to push through the homestead legislation he'd worked for so long. Not in Sabin, though the 1860 "Free Homes for Free Men" speech appears (28994). .
