Author: SEIDL, Anton (1850-98) Title: Autograph Musical Quotation Signed
Description: The Hungarian-born conductor led the New York Philharmonic from 1891 until his death and was considered one of the greatest Wagnerians of his day. AMuQS, 1p, 6½" X 4½", n.p. 1894. Very good. Moderate even age toning, with couple of mounting traces on verso. At center, the maestro pens a bold "In Remembrance of the / New York Philharmonic Season, / 1893-94. / Anton Seidl / Conductor." Above this, at the upper left, he pens three measures of music, identifying them beneath as "From the New World. (Dvorak.)." At the upper right, he pens two measures of music, identifying them beneath as "Siegfried Idyll. (Wagner.)." Seidl conducted the premiere of Antonin Dvorak's "From the New World" in this very season -- 1893 -- making this an especially choice and timely example, a single item incorporating the most famous premiere with which he's associated and the composer with which he's most often associated. Very scarce. .
