Townsend announces the Secretary of War's appointment of Major General Grenville M. Dodge "to the command of the Department of Missouri" and of Major General William S. Rosecrans "being relieved" of same and ordered to "repair to Cincinnati, Ohio" to await further orders -- which never came. Very attractive. General appointed -- general relieved!.
