Title: Handbook of Ship Calculations, Construction and Operation: A Book of Reference for Shipowners, Ship Officers, Ship and Engine Draughtsmen, Marine Engineers, and Others Engaged in the Building and Operating of Ships
Description: New York, D. Appleton and Company, 1920. Hardcover. 12mo. Limp black leatherette. xxiv, 740pp. Line drawings, charts, graphs. Very good. Mild edgewear, but overall tight, clean and fairly attractive. Third printing of this classic manual. This copy has a fine literary provenance, having belonged to novelist HAROLD BELL WRIGHT (1872-1944), author of such bestsellers as "The Shepherd of the Hills" (1907), "The Calling of Dan Matthews" (1909) and "The Winning of Barbara Worth" (1911) -- whose descendants parted with much of HBW's personal library in December 2005. Wright was a serious long-time boating enthusiast. A printed statement signed by two descendants on behalf of the Harold Bell Wright Estate accompanies this volume, specifying that it came from HBW's personal library. .
