A tight, most handsome first edition of this highly unusual love affair between (to quote the jacket front flap) "a twentieth-century American art director and.. a very British, and rather haughty, Jaguar automobile.." The author boldly inscribes and signs the half-title page in blue ballpoint to a noted Midwest photographer: "to my long time / friend, Archie Lieberman / without who's advice and help / this book would not have / been published / Harry Smedley / 11/29/83." Opposite this a 3" X 3" slip has been stapled to the upper part of the flyleaf, on which the author pens: "Hope you enjoy / the book as much as / I've enjoyed yours. / My best to both / your [?] / Harry. .
