Typed above the signature is "autograph signature of / His Excellency Augusto Rosso, / Italian Ambassador," while the place and date is typed below the signature. Accompanied by a brief unsigned transmittal note on "Royal Italian Embassy / Washington" letterhead sending this to Arnold Gates (noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). .
